Challenge Extension Programme - third and fourth grade
Teachers can recommend third and fourth grade students to participate in the 'Challenge Program. The program is project based and designed to allow the students to explore an authentic problem - some previous examples are below The students are supported as they move through the various stages of the project, which may include researching, discussion, planning, resourcing and creating one or more possible solutions. The group must collaborate as a team, producing an oral presentation to either a small or large group at the end of each project.
Bug Motels and Hotels
The first challenge was to create and build some wildlife shelters, individual Motels and a group Hotel. The students also created their own BUG, thinking about how it moved, where it lived, what it ate and of course what it looked like.
